Event Details:
2011: Saturday March 19th. Park your car at Robert Service Campground and take the shuttle to the gathering place at the SS Klondike. Shuttle busses free and run from 8:15 to 8:45. A parade leaves SS Klondike at 9PM unless it is really cold and then it leaves earlier - because it is too cold to wait! Wear warm clothes and sturdy walking shoes. Bring any blues you'd like to burn away written on paper or on non-toxic burnable items. We will collect them in the blues bag and toss them into the fire along with the effigy. Last minute info: 336-1723. Dress up! Or at least make-up! Available to help? Call 332-4225. AND remember Recorded WEBCAST, this year hosted by Susie-Anne Bartsch. Tell your friends and folks from afar to tune in at 8:30. We'll be live. AND - come by the web cam and say hi to your friends.
2010: Arlin McFarlane reports that Burning Away the Winter Blues was a smash success with around 300 people attending the event even though it was the Easter long weekend. Approximately 300 people tuned into the live webcasting, a number of whom chatted back and forth online about the event.

We’ll be celebrating the 13th anniversary of this unique northern ritual and have some special things planned, including the second full live webcast of Burning Away the Winter Blues. Mark March 19 on your calendar and watch for updates on our website especially on our News page.
Burning Away the Winter Blues is a community event staged by Yukon Educational Theatre to mark the Spring Equinox. This annual ritual was conceived as a way to help Yukoners celebrate the end of the winter and renew their spirits in time for spring. Over the past ten years, it has become a tradition for many Yukoners. With the live webcast of the coming year’s event, even more people can take part.
Our event begins at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday March 19, 2011 on the shores of the Yukon River in downtown Whitehorse.
